Lake of Tualatin Commons confirmed for Oregon Emerald Cup

Word came in today that the Tualatin Parks Department has confirmed ERCU’s request to use the Lake of Tualatin Commons for the Oregon Emerald Cup on Saturday, June 30.

This will be the sixth annual running of the Oregon Emerald Cup.

“We like to have you here,” said Parks & Recreation Manager Carl Switzer, who has become a fan of model hydroplane racing since ERCU began running at the Lake of Tualatin Commons in 2007.

Counting the last two vintage championships, Mike Campbell has seven titles. He also has won each of the five modern championships at the Oregon Emerald Cup. Jeff Campbell won the first two vintage titles, and Craig Mullen won the race in 2009.

Ben Keller’s 1957 Hawaii Ka’i III has won two of the last three vintage crowns — tied with Jeff Campbell’s 1969 Pay ‘n Pak Outrigger which won the first two races. Mike Campbell’s 1974 Country Boy and 1982 Executone have each won two modern cups.

As of this post, just two dates remain unconfirmed on the 2012 ERCU Schedule.
